Beginner Judo in Riverview, Florida

No experience needed. Start learning real Judo from day one.

Starting Judo can feel intimidating, but it does not have to be. At Dragon Judo Academy in Riverview, beginners are the foundation of our program. From your first class, you will learn how to fall safely, establish grips, and execute basic techniques with patient, hands-on coaching from Sensei Javier Siles.

Your First Class

Your first visit starts with a warm welcome and a walkthrough of what to expect. You will practice ukemi (breakfalls) on the mat, learn basic stances and movement, and get introduced to fundamental throws with a partner. No gi is required, just comfortable workout clothes.

Learning at Your Own Pace

Every student learns differently. Some pick up throws quickly; others need more time on balance and footwork. Our coaches adjust instruction to your level so you progress safely without feeling rushed or left behind.

You Are Not Starting Alone

Many of our students began with zero martial arts background, kids discovering Judo for the first time and adults in their 30s, 40s, and beyond. You will train in a supportive community that understands what it is like to start something new.

FAQ

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before your first class.

No. Adults of all ages train Judo successfully. Our adult program is designed for beginners, not competitive youth athletes.

Judo will improve your fitness over time. You do not need to be in peak condition to start, you need willingness to learn and show up consistently.

Not before you learn to fall safely. Ukemi (breakfall) training comes first, and all partner work is introduced gradually under coach supervision.
